May 2007 NHJA "TOP DOGS" AWARDED TOP HONORS AT 2007 USEF CONVENTION
It was a blue ribbon experience for both our top NHJA officers, Gary Baker, President and Jimmy Lee, VP Hunters, when they received coveted awards at the recent USEF convention in Louisville, KY.
The USEF Pegasus Medal of Honor was given to Gary for his outstanding contributions tot he sport of Equestiran, and Jimmy was the recipient of our own NHJA Owner Recognition award, presented each year to an NHJA member who has been consistently dedicated to owning and showing hunters and jumpers.
Gary's involvement in the sport goes way back to when he was a youngster helping to drive his grandfather's workhorses while dragging firewood over the fields. As time went on he enlarged his area of expertise to include breeding and gave us such notable animals as Royal Secret, Bank Roll, Midnight Tango and Rosecroft Wise Guy. He is also deeply involved in the sport of steeplechasing and spends untold hours managing horse shows and serving on various boards and committees of the USEF and other horse related organizations.
Jimmy is one of the most widely known and accepted hunter judges licensed by the USEF,. Hardly a week goes by without Jimmy being somewhere other than home, doing what he does so well, judging a horse show. He travels all over the country and is much in demand for his services. How he ever had time to raise and show such notable animals as Sign the Card, Third of August, Perfect Stranger and Scott To Do is a question only Jimmy and answer. Almost all of his horses won USEF High Score Awards and it is our recollection that Sign The Card was champion at almost every show on the East Coast. Jimmy is a unique combination of owner and professional.
